Between 2008 and 2023, AWARD has facilitated the growth and development of 331 researchers and leaders from Ghana, with 216 being female and 119 being male. Out of the fellowship beneficiaries, 21 Fellows were sponsored to partake in Advance Science Training (AST) research attachments. Additionally, AWARD has enhanced the skills of 178 trainees on leadership, science, mentoring, and gender, drawn from various institutions in Ghana, including but not limited to, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University of Ghana, and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) among others.

Our work in Ghana

  • Country chapter engagements: AWARD’s supported GHAWARD on a series of role modelling events (June 2021) and the launch of an awareness creation program in various regions in Ghana.
  • Gender Training & Regional Leadership Program for Emerging Leaders: In June 2019 AWARD collaborated with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to deliver a training on gender with the participation of 55 CSIR staff members (mid- and senior- level management) from six (6) Accra-based agricultural research institutions. This was followed by a Regional Leadership Program for Emerging Leaders held in June 2019 which brought together 31 participants from the selected GRARD institutions so that they connect and share their learnings and experience on different areas of effective management and leadership. For many, this was the first training opportunity on leadership skills. This training offered an opportunity to support staff members who often do a great deal of work in the background to also appreciate values such as inclusiveness and efficiency for smooth planning, processes, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Research Proposal Writing Skills Course: The science course was organized in May 2018, as a joint AWARD-CSIR event and specifically dedicated to CSRI-CRI staff members as part of the AWARD-USAID GRARD interventions in Ghana. The proposed course was a follow up to the scientific writing skills course in June 2017 and in 2016 with the participation of 48 CSIR-CRI staff members who consistently attended the one-week course in Kumasi.
  • Mentoring Orientation Workshop: Supporting institutional action plans- AWARD supported the CSIR follow-up process for a mentoring program (June 2015) based on the AWARD mentoring model.

Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source.

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.
