The Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC) provided additional contribution of $902,921 to reinforce the participation of women scientists from francophone West Africa in the One Planet Fellowship. This is in recognizance of the missing links and bottlenecks in building and enhancing research and leadership skills and increasing networking opportunities among African researchers, particularly women scientists.
The IDRC grant was signed in September 2019. Leveraging funding from the existing partnership (BMGF and BNP Paribas Foundation), the IDRC funding targeted thirty (30) climate-agriculture related scientists of the One Planet Fellowship comprising of five (5) women Laureate Candidates (from francophone Africa), five (5) women Mentors and five (5) women learning partners (early-career women scientists) for two cohorts over a period of three (3) years. This support from IDRC contributed to strengthening interventions targeting all the women of the One Planet Fellowship initiative.
